Freely is a free-to-air streaming service that was launched in the UK in April 2024. I worked on many aspects of the Freely experience leading up to its launch including the ‘Mini Guide’, Help & Settings and the integration of FAST channels.
TV Mini Guide
Key Responsibilities:

UX lead on Mini Guide: Wireframing, high fidelity prototyping, user research, stakeholder management, design systems

The ‘Mini Guide’ is an integral part of the Freely experience. The user lands here when they turn on their TV to use Freely. The Mini Guide posed a unique challenge as it needed to balance two key user needs. One to allow users to quickly and easily browse and tune to channels and two to allow users to access playback controls such as pause/play and ff/rw.

We tested this UX vigorously as it was crucial for a successful launch of Freely. I worked closely with the research team to plan and conduct regular in-house user testing sessions using complex high fidelity prototypes of the experience.

FAST Channel Integration
Key Responsibilities:

UX lead on FAST channels: Wireframing, high fidelity designs, stakeholder management

FAST (free ad-supported streamed TV) channels was feature that needed to be integrated into Freely soon after its launch due to a commercial agreement. I worked on several different versions of the design to envision how an MVP version of the feature could look as well as UX improvements we could introduce iteratively at a later date. The project required a quick turn around and involved a lot of negotiation with various stakeholders.

When you’re working on a project for a long time, it’s hard not to have ideas that come to the surface and sometimes you get the opportunity to bring those ideas to life. This was a project I worked on during several ‘You Days’ at YouView which explored an innovative channel browsing UI and a forward thinking FAST channels experience.
